That being said.In my case I suppose the only compromise is that I can't just barrel through the banks when there's a lot of heavy wet snow. It doesn't take much effort and is pretty effective. Even then, I just back up a few inches when the wheels start to spin or the bucket starts to rise up. Worst case scenario is when we get a heavy wet snow and the bank is well over the height of the bucket. The bank at the end of the driveway can be a bit of work but the mobility helps there. My driveway is a slight incline and south facing so it's usually bare within 24 hours of being cleared making the accumulation of ice is rare. Otherwise, there is no darting and it will bulldoze through any amount of wet snow with ease. In that case the bucket will occasionally catch on the ice and dart to the left or right. It's only when there's ice left over from a previous storm that I have problems with it tracking. I must say though, as long as it's clean (bare pavement) underneath the new snow, the wheels work well. I never knew about the climbing stairs part. Ideally I would like to have a 24-28" wheeled Honda to supplement my tracked Ariens. I'm torn between what I would buy if I had to do it all again. On the other hand, when the accumulations are small but enough to warrant snow blowing, the tracked Ariens starts to be a burden. The tracks also let you do interesting things like climb stairs for clearing of decks and they can float on top of snow if you are clearing accumulation that's higher than the intake of the machine.Ĭoming from a relatively light weight wheeled 26" 8.5HP MTD produced blower, with the 350+lbs Ariens it's really nice not having to muscle the machine through everything but the flat area of my driveway. On the other hand it's an absolute monster when it comes to deep snow and ultra dense end of driveway piles. I agree with you completely that mobility is poor on any surface that has good grip (dirt, grass, dry asphalt). I was shopping for a wheeled unit but an excellent deal was available on mine so I jumped on it.

I have a 2015 Platinum 30 and to this day I'm undecided between tracks and wheels.I have a 28" Hydro Pro Track which is my first tracked snow blower. Makes a huge difference with the Autoturn when the two wheels are on two difference surfaces.where i live we get a lot of heavy wet snow and when our cars drive over it in the driveway it packs down solid and i was having trouble with the blower not having enough weight in the front and it riding up and only getting the lighter packed stuff.i also had problems with tire grip due to a little incline in my driveway in places so that's why i got the chains and weight kit.the top deflector is a mechanism alignment/spring problem.i def don't want to lube it cause that will cause the lever to pop out of the slot even easier under vibration.i think i need to add some type of spacer.that's something i need to mess with a little more this fall The Delrin skids were the best thing I added to both our machines. Maybe yours needs a little lubrication and/or adjustment? I haven't had any trouble at all with the top deflector. My son has the Deluxe 28 with the same AX414 motor and the crank chute on that is just plain easier to use.
